What is a Nursery School?
Nursery school is a child welfare facility, which provides child-care in place of guardians for children of households with difficulties in care-taking, due to working or ailed guardians. Qualifying ages for an enrollment are 0 years old to before admission to an elementary school.
Flow of Enrollment Procedure
When enrolling from April

When enrolling at mid-year
Enrollment to a nursery school at the mid-year will be on the first day of every month. Apply by the 20th of a month, prior to the month of desired enrollment. However, enrollment to the desired nursery school may not be possible if it has reached its enrollment limit.
Necessary documents can be obtained at Child Rearing Support Division in Central Office, any nursery school, and any Contact Service Center.
Nursery School Fee
The nursery school fee will be determined by the amount of income tax and whether municipal taxes are taxable or not. Monthly payment may be made through withdrawal from your bank account or with cash at the end of the month.
At municipal nursery schools, extended care is provided from 7:30 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. on weekdays. Please apply at the nursery school if you wish for extended care. There will be an extension fee of 1,000 yen per month for extended care in the evening from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Kindergarten is an educational institution for children before entering elementary school, and it differs from a nursery school. Please inquire at respective kindergartens regarding enrollment.
